The Provence in south eastern France borders Italy, the Mediterranean and the Rhône River. Typical for the Provence is the huge variation in landscapes, but certainly also the rich history in art, culture and architecture. Nature lovers can indulge in the beautiful rock formations in the low mountains of Les Pénitents des Mées, in the impressive canyon of the Gorges du Verdon, in the pebble desert La Grande Crau or the Camargue delta with white horses and pink flamingos, just to name a few. Sports enthusiasts can visit the Provencal Alps for walks along beautiful mountain lakes and glaciers, skiing is possible in the Alpes du Sud, while cyclists can climb the notorious mountain, Mont Ventoux, well known as stage in the Tour de France. Art and architecture (many Roman heritage) is abundant and well worth a visit, including Aix-en-Provence with the beautiful Saint Sauveur Cathedral, Avignon with the Pope Palace, the amphitheatre in Arles, the Triumphal Arch of Orange and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence known as the home town of Vincent van Gogh. In short, the Provence offers something for everyone while staying in a villa with private pool. The Provence is easily accessible by car, but you can also fly to Marseille.
