Isola di Capri
Capri is a well know and sunny holiday destination, located in the Tyrrhenian Sea, with as capital the eponymous town of Capri. The island is famous amongst the rich and celebrities, due to its expensive boutiques, amazing sea views, outstanding restaurants and natural beauty. One of Capri’s main attractions is ‘The Grotto Azzurra’; a sea cave which name derives from the light passing through the cavity, reflecting on the water, that illuminates the grotto with a blue colour. Some other things that must be visited during your stay at Capri is ‘Villa San Michele’; which beautiful garden offers panoramic views of town of Capri and its harbour, the ‘Piazza Umberto I’; the most famous square in Capri, hosting the ‘Clocktower’ and the ‘Grand Café Vuotto’, owned by Raffaele Vuotto. If you like history and art, the old monastery-fortress ‘Certosa di San Giacomo’ might be something for you, hosting art exhibitions. At the south coast of Capri, the Via Krupp can be found, which is a historic switchback paved footpath, built by Friedrich Alfred Krupp. The path covers an elevation difference of 100 meter, including eight switchbacks. To add some religious sightseeing to your trip, you must visit some churches in the town of Anacapri. The Chiesa di Santa Sofia, built in 1510, is situated at the piazza in the historic centre, featuring two bell towers and a beautiful baroque façade. Also located at the historic centre of Anacapri is the Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo, constructed between 1698 and 1719, and famous for its majolica tiled floor, displaying ‘the Expulsion from Eden’. If you are into the Italian cuisine, you will probably know that the ‘Insalata Caprese’ originated from Capri. Enjoy this tasteful salad as a starter, or as a light lunch on a sunny terrace. Regular ferries run to Capri from Naples and Sorrento, so the most easy way to reach Capri is to fly to Naples and then take the ferry.
