Apulia Apulia, or Puglia in Italian, is the region in the heel of the Italian boot and is adjacent to both the Adriatic as well as the Ionian Sea. Traditionally, there is much olive oil and wine production in the area, but nowadays tourism is also playing an increasingly important role. This is due to its location by the sea and the sunny, warm southern Italian climate. The most visited coastal towns in the north are Vieste, Peschici and Mattinata on the Gargano peninsula. But the green inland is also worth a visit, it is densely wooded and has the status of national park. In the south, the region is bordered by the Ionian Sea, here you can still see influences from Greek antiquity, as in the town of Gallipoli with its whitewashed houses. Most villas in Apulia (Puglia) have a large garden with private pool. Some villas in Apulia (Puglia) are just steps away from the beach. The main airports of Apulia are Bari, the capital of the region and Brindisi. Both cities are also major port cities with regular ferry connections to both the Greek mainland (Patras), as the islands of Corfu and Zakynthos.
