Apulia Apulia, or Puglia in Italian, is the region in the heel of the Italian boot and is adjacent to both the Adriatic as well as the Ionian Sea. Traditionally, there is much olive oil and wine production in the area, but nowadays tourism is also playing an increasingly important role. This is due to its location by the sea and the sunny, warm southern Italian climate. The most visited coastal towns in the north are Vieste, Peschici and Mattinata on the Gargano peninsula. But the green inland is also worth a visit, it is densely wooded and has the status of national park. In the south, the region is bordered by the Ionian Sea, here you can still see influences from Greek antiquity, as in the town of Gallipoli with its whitewashed houses.
