Liguria is a coastal region located on the Ligurian Sea and Ligurian Riviera. The capital is the famous Genoa (Genova), home to the largest port in Italy. This region is famous for its flowers, great coastlines and nostalgic villages, some of which are to be found on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Genoa, San Remo, Albenga and the Cinque Terre villages are well worth a visit. Liguria has several nature reserves such as the peninsula of Portofino, the Ligurian Alps and Cinque Terre. In these areas, hiking and nature lovers can enjoy themselves, but there is also a lot of historic architecture to see. The wide sandy beaches in this coastal region must not be forgotten, where you can linger for days. Liguria has relatively warm winters and summers moderated by the sea. This is because this area of Italy is behind the Apennines and is therefore sheltered from the cold northern wind. During the summer evenings, it is a must to enjoy a plate of pasta al pesto, which is derived originally from Liguria, and a glass of 'Riviera Ligure di Poniente Pigato’ the best white wine of Liguria.
