Like most villages or towns in Mallorca, Cala D’or used to be a fishers village. Even though this town has grown considerably, it still has a village atmosphere. This is because of the way the buildings were designed; you won’t find many, if any, high buildings here. Cala D’Or means ‘Golden Bay’; it owes its name to the yellow, golden beaches in the bays of this place. The most important bay is the modern harbour called Cala Llonga, but most of the shops, restaurants and bars can be found around the pedestrian zone named Cala Gran. This place also has the biggest beach of Cala D’Or, which is around 40 meters wide and 100 meters long. Here, different kinds of water sports are offered. If you prefer something else than lying on the beach, it is a great option to do a boat trip to explore the coastline. And if you are visiting this beautiful place in July, you are lucky enough to attend the annual Jazz festival of Cala D’Or! To reach Cala D’Or, the best way is to fly to Palma Airport and from there drive to your villa with private pool in Cala d'Or, which will be about a 1,5 hour drive.
