Description of the villa

This villa lies in the Chianti Classico hills about 4 kms from Castellina in Chianti and about 10 from San Donato in Poggio, halfway between Florence and Siena (about 30 kms from both of them). It stands in a very panoramic position, with a view of the valley called Val d'Elsa and of San Gimignano, inside the largest cypress grove in Europe, where peace and tranquillity reign and enhance the beauty and colour of the natural surroundings.

It was originally a large rural farmhouse, and the current owners, after a long renovation, have transformed it into an elegant country residence, using high-quality materials both for the furniture and for the upholstery, with everything perfectly coordinated room by room. Outside they have made a 8x16m swimming-pool - with hydromassage and a little stone waterfall - and around the villa is a pleasant garden surrounded by the woods.

The small courtyard is a nice little nook with tables and soft lighting where you can take an aperitif or a fresh drink when you come back from the pool. On the other side you will find a spacious loggia in terracotta with a typical wooden-beamed ceiling, furnished simply and elegantly. The loggia, ventilated and with the magical sunsets that the summer skies offer every evening, is the perfect place for dinner and breakfast. Free Wi -Fi in the common areas.

This area, which is famous for producing Chianti Classico wine, has many vineyards where you can taste and buy the best local wines, and at the same time offers excellent restaurants where you can enjoy the best tuscan cuisine. The owners live in an independent villa close to the villa, and are available to give any information you might need at times to be agreed on arrival, occasionally they may also share the swimming-pool. Behind the villa is a reception with independent entrance. To reach the villa there is an untarred access road of about 3 kms. Free Wi -Fi in the common areas.

GROUND FLOOR: large living-room with fireplace and corner bar, dining-room, large and very well equipped professional kitchen, 2 WCs with washbasin, 1 double bedroom with bathroom with shower, large loggia furnished with tables and chairs.

FIRST FLOOR: small sitting-room with fireplace and small library, 4 double bedrooms with bathroom (2 of them have beds that can be separated), 2 twins with bathroom, (4 of the bathrooms have a shower, and 2 have a bath-tub with shower extension), and in one bedroom there is a small double sofa-bed. Air-conditioning in the bedrooms and mosquito-netting at the windows of the first floor.

"It was absolutely the best house I could possibly have imagined for our family. The kitchen (we are a bunch of cooks) was fantastic. It really is a restaurant kitchen with every conceivable appliance. I would kill for that kitchen in my house. The bedrooms were very comfortable with each having it's own bathroom and the extra double "powder room" on the ground floor was a bonus. The huge living room and bar area was the focus of our after dinner entertainment. We spent the evening playing board games that my nephew brought down from their house in Germany. And the last few nights we had a roaring fire going as the weather was quite cool and between the fire and the wine we could not have been happier. The views from the house of the surrounding countryside were everything Tuscany is all about. Vineyards in the front and olive trees to the side. Maurizio ( I'm not sure about the spelling) even showed us where to hunt for wild asparagus which we found and cooked with our pasta for dinner. He and Federica were wonderful and as accommodating as they could be. The sunset views from any of the many patios were the subject of about 150 photographs. It was far too cold to use the pool but it looked magnificent. I would - and already have - recommended this house to anyone who is thinking or traveling to Tuscany. There is no doubt I would absolutely stay there again. The owners were wonderful and I think we got along very well. No vacation in a foreign country will ever go without a few mis-steps but this one came as close as I could have hoped."
